Thorough Dental Check-Ups
Why should I have dental hygiene visits twice a year?
-
Your oral soft tissues and bone will be examined thoroughly by both our hygienist and dentist
- Oral cancer, worn enamel, cavities, gum disease, & bone loss are all far more manageable and affordable when caught early
- Professional cleanings are the only way to remove tartar
- Stains from things like coffee & wine are kept in check by a good cleaning and polishing every 6 months
- Most dental insurances cover most or all of the cost
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are a safe and effective way to prevent cavities. According to The Centers for Disease Control, children ages 6-11 without sealants have 3x more cavities than those with sealants. And The American Dental Association says sealants reduce the risk of cavities in molars by 80%. Children and teens are less likely to keep all of their dental surfaces clean, but even adults can benefit from sealants. And they're far less expensive than fillings, root canals, & crowns.
Gum Disease Screening, Treatment, & Maintenance
Prevention and early detection are the best ways to deal with gingivitis (gum inflammation) and periodontitis (gum disease), which are caused by unmanaged plaque.
When plaque hardens and becomes tartar, bacteria can become trapped along the gumline. Professional cleanings are the only way to remove tartar. Inflammation is a warning sign that should not be ignored. Gingivitis can be reversed; periodontitis cannot.
Our hygienist, Susan Sketoe, RDH, can help treat and manage gum disease. Depending on severity we may work in conjunction with a periodontist to ensure your best outcome. Dr. Hargis and Susan can answer your questions about Scaling and Root Planing treatments and perio maintenance.
Fluoride Treatment
The fluoride treatment from your dental office is concentrated, generally tastes good, and is applied for only a few minutes. Both the CDC and the ADA attest to its safety and benefits in strengthening tooth enamel and helping prevent cavities. In fact, it helps your teeth better absorb minerals like calcium and phosphate, which naturally repair weakened enamel. Both children and adults can receive and benefit from fluoride treatments.
